Mr. Ristano

Welcome!

My name is Jimmy Ristano. The purpose of this page is to give you some insight into my teaching practices and achievements. Please browse the menu to see more!

My career in education started at South Side Middle School, where I worked as a Teaching Assistant in grades 6 and 7 for 3 years. As I worked toward getting my masters, I collaborated with general and special education teachers in all subject areas. I also had the opportunity to tutor several 7th grade students in mathematics. Once I acquired my Childhood Education (1-6) Certification, I gained experience as a Literacy Teacher, Substitute, and 6th Grade Leave Replacement Teacher which further solidified my ability to connect with elementary and middle-grade students.

In my current role as a 3rd Grade Teacher at Stewart Manor Elementary School, I have implemented engaging, standards-aligned lessons across all core subjects, emphasizing group collaboration and differentiation to reach all student’s needs. Technology also plays a major role in how I design and share lessons with my students. I firmly believe in being the facilitator of learning, and that all students can learn.  Additionally, my ongoing work as a Robotics Coach has allowed me to integrate hands-on, real-world STEM applications with our 5th and 6th graders, leading our First Lego League team to multiple regional awards and championships. Lastly, I am very involved in the after-school programs at my school. I teach New York State Test Preparation classes, play percussion for the school band, as well as coordinate music for the school talent show.
